How it works

Why your support matters

Across Canberra and the surrounding region, many women navigate pregnancy and early parenting while carrying the weight of housing instability, family violence, financial stress, or social isolation.

Karinya House provides holistic, round-the-clock support shaped around each woman's needs. This support can include a safe place to stay, compassionate casework, health and wellbeing programs, and practical assistance for daily life.

But like any garden, our ability to nurture stability and connection relies on ongoing care. Government funding covers only part of the support required.

Join the Buddies Making a Difference

Prior to retiring I had decided to support Karinya House as a volunteer and financially. The beautiful Mums - very often quite young - are given whole wrap around support to enable them to become a great parent. I believe every person needs to be given a chance in life no matter their background.

Supporting Karinya House by regular donations is my way of making a difference in someone’s life and support Karinya House. You all inspire me and make me a better person. I have had a wonderful long life and feel lucky to have had a loving family and loved by my own family. My way to give back.

I am so proud of being a regular donor to Karinya House. Over the years I have scaled my donations with my changing income but always keep a regular deposit. I have never regretted it. Every cent is well used by wonderful teams for those who need it.

I've always felt it's such an honour and privilege to be involved in Karinya House and with such wonderful, caring, sharing people on the team. I often think of everyone I've met there and what a fantastic organisation it is, doing the best things possible to make life better for young mums and bubs.

When I first heard of the work that Karinya House does to support women and babies at times of crisis, trauma and vulnerability it lifted my heart. I know my life and the life of my daughter, would have been very different if such a service had been available to me and I feel blessed to be able to support such a life changing and life affirming service.

My small contribution to Karinya's great work is in honour of my mother (the baby whisperer) and my sister (the amazing midwife). They and the other amazing women (and men) in my extended family value women and babies and understand the need to nurture and support both at all times.

We have always been confident that the money we donate goes to local women very much in need of the love and support provided by Karinya House.

Working and volunteering at Karinya House has shown me first-hand what a difference my regular donation can make. The impact that recurring donors have on the organisation is paramount to supporting the frontline workers to provide a fabulous wraparound service to the women we support.

I've been delighted to be a Friend of Karinya for many years because I have witnessed the positive difference it makes to young women and their families. It is unique, effective and very caring. It gives them hope and a chance for the future.

It is a real privilege to support such a selfless and compassionate service supporting women to grow and build a better future.

It wasn't until I was invited to serve on the Karinya House management committee many years ago that I became aware of the extent of the professional and holistic approach used in providing support to its residents and outreach clients administered by such a caring and loving team. Something we continue to wholeheartedly support!!!
